To Have Or To Hold Off?

YOU'RE ENGAGED! Congratulations- and now it's time to tell the world! Or at least your nearest and dearest.  And what better way to share your excitement then to throw a party?  Engagement parties can be a fun way of sharing the news, but not everyone has one.   Should you? Well, only you (and your future hubby, let's not forget him) can answer that.  But, what Mama can do is enlighten you on a few reason's why people do- and other's don't- to help you weigh in your options.

SAY YES TO THE PARTY
  • If you want to show off that ring
  • If you only want to tell the proposal story once
  • To elevate the excitement of your upcoming nuptials
  • If you want your families to meet before the wedding
SAY NO TO THE PARTY
  • If you are not ready to decide on wedding invites yet (you'll need to have a handle on your wedding guests- as it is poor etiquette to invite someone to the engagement party that is not invited to the wedding).
  • If you have a short engagement.  If your wedding is in 6 months or less- wait it out.  Why?  Go back and read "Tact vs. Tacky" to find the answer!
  • If the budget is tight.  Why spend money celebrating now?  Save that cash to put toward some of the "must haves" for the big day!

There is no right or wrong answer as to whether or not you should have an engagement party.  If you are unsure- just wait and see.  Traditionally, the engagement party is thrown by the parents of the bride- so no need for you to stress over it.  If you DO plan to have an engagement party- Stay tuned! Tomorrow Mama will share with you her Top 10 Tips For Planning The Engagement Party, so don't forget to check back.

How did you decide whether or not an engagement party was right for you?  Send us a comment, and tell Mama about it! We'd certainly love to hear from you!
