More and more these days people are becoming a little more environmentally conscious and focusing on reducing our carbon foot print. Many are switching to energy efficient products for the home, recycling more regularly, and even re-using items we would have thrown away before. If Earth day can celebrate a 40 year commitment with an eco-friendly attitude so can we. What better occasion than a family reunion, pool party, or barbecue bash to go green. Mama is here to tell you how!
The food: If you want to go green, don't go imported. Though choosing foods from all over the world might sound very appealing for your event, keep in mind how much fuel is needed to ship those foods here for you to enjoy. Stay local and check out your local farmers market for a fresh, yet green alternative!
Table Setting: If your party is 12 or less guests, use your everyday plates and utensils. For larger bashes purhase the resin product plates, glasses and cups. They do not cost much more than the paper product alternative and can be reused at your next bash. Use cloth tablecloths & napkins! You can design the tablecloth & napkins by by recycling clothes mad of cotton fabrics that you no longer us. What better way to save a tree.
Drinks: Since aluminum is very easy to recycle, if your event isn't too formal serve drinks in the can, as opposed to bottle. Then don't forget to rinse them out and throw them in the recycle bin when you're done! For alcoholic beverages, why not try creating a cocktail using fresh fruits. For example, for a summer drink, soak pineapple chunks with pineapple juice in rum. Let it sit over night, and serve on the rocks. This cocktail is both refreshing- and biodegradable!
Decor: A great centerpiece idea is to take a baby tree with it's roots wrapped in burlap. Tie a bow around the burlap, and place on a cake stand in the center of the table. The all natural beauty of the tree will last far longer than your event as it can be planted once the party is over!
